Veliki Viharnik
Veliki Viharnik – a legend that still races
Veliki Viharnik is no ordinary yacht. It is a racing machine built for the toughest race in the world, and it has been writing its story at sea for more than three decades.
From the round-the-world race to a Slovenian legend
- 1992
Its story began in 1992 in Italy, where it was launched as Brooksfield. With skipper Guido Maisto and a mostly Italian crew, it sailed the famous Whitbread Round the World Race 1993–1994, the forerunner of today's The Ocean Race. It belonged to the first generation of the Whitbread 60 class, later known as the Volvo Ocean 60 or VOR 60.
- 2000
In 2000 it was bought by Mobitel and, renamed Veliki Viharnik, became one of Slovenia's best-known racing yachts. With long-time helmsman Dušan Puh and his crew it raced in many Adriatic regattas and won notable victories.
- 2019
We opened a new chapter in 2019, when we restored it after a period out of the water and brought it back to the race course. For a while it also sailed as CleanSport Too. At the Barcolana, the world's largest regatta, its best overall result is 2nd place, and it has finished in the top five several times.
- Today
Today we continue its story of sport sailing, team experiences and bringing people closer to the sea.
A yacht that brings teams together
There are no passengers on Veliki Viharnik. Every crew member has a job: helming, grinding the winches, trimming the sails, tactics. The boat only moves when everyone works together. That is why a team learns on board in a few hours what takes months in the office: clear communication, trust and a shared goal. Our skipper and professional crew take care of safety and guidance.
